Title
Development of sensor for monitoring sodium and potassium ions in the greenhouse water system
Duration
17/12/2020 – 17/04/2021
VIDA Challenges
Sustainable agriculture and efficient greenhouse management
Summary
Sodium ions (Na+) in water can directly injure plant roots and interfere with water and nutrient uptake and is one of the main reasons why greenhouses discharge their water as waste. Potassium ions (K+) is an essential component of plant growth and the lack of it will result in stunting plant growth. With current technology, the analysis of water quality requires samples to be taken to a laboratory periodically. Appsen with the support of Wetsus aims to develop a new technological solution to measure in-line Sodium ions (Na+) and Potassium ions (K+) in greenhouse waters to protect drops and generate savings for greenhouse owners.
